Sedbergh Hills Fell Race (AL) 14miles, 6000’ ascent (for those like me who still find miles & feet easier to grasp) around the Howgills – grass and bracken, rounded tops, steep valleys, no walls, few ‘features’, some pathless running, navigation choices, running on your own (with a small field), contouring on narrow paths (if you are lucky), steep descents (Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and going down stairs backwards awaits those without enough descending in their legs) and a fantastic feeling when you reach the finish.
Are you getting the gist of this? A long tough race – but a fabulous circuit around those beautiful smooth looking Howgills, good points to be gained for the Club Championship, and a great race to have in your ‘bag’. And the Race Organiser is our very own Vic Wilkinson – so support the race by running, or helping out, if you can (contact for Vic on Si Entries).
